Local fintech Bridgement creates WordPress plugin to make SMEs COVID-19 compliant

If you visit a South Africa website at the moment, you will more than likely see some sort of banner or link leading to the Department of Health’s dedicated COVID-19 website.

This is not by accident, however, but rather by design, with all websites ending with .za being directed to link to the local coronavirus site, as outlined by government a couple of weeks ago.

For a news website like ours, which gets updated daily, if not hourly, this is a relatively easy element to add, but for some SMEs out there, it may prove more difficult. Local fintech, Bridgement, has acknowledged this, and together with WordPress has created a plugin for SMEs in particular to use.

“For many small business owners, this regulation has either been overlooked or avoided, they have much bigger concerns regarding their day-to-day operations,” says Daniel Goldberg, Bridgement’s CEO, regarding the decision to create the plugin.

“We’re offering a simple solution to SMEs, who cannot factor in additional costs for developers, to comply with these regulations at such short notice,” he adds.

The plugin is designed to take the stress out of compliance, and can be implemented seamlessly into an SME’s current WordPress website, the fintech explains.

The plugin is available for free on the official WordPress directory, or it can be downloaded directly from Bridgement’s website.

The installation of the plugin from your website’s WordPress admin panel is as follows:

  1. Log into your WordPress site’s admin panel
  2. Navigate to the Plugins tab
  3. Click “Add New”
  4. Search “South Africa COVID19 Banner”
  5. Click “Install Now” and then “Activate”
  6. Refresh your website and you’ll see the banner in the bottom right.

A very handy plugin indeed, it should prove helpful for SME and non-SME websites alike.

“We all need to do our part to ensure that public knowledge of the pandemic is being accurately communicated across all platforms – especially online,” concludes Goldberg.
