You Should Be Watching: Warhammer 40K Theories

One of the most difficult franchises to get into is Warhammer 40K. The sheer amount of media created for the universe is staggering, spanning countless books, magazines, videogames, and just about every other form of media you can imagine.

Even more infuriating is the fact that the creator and custodian of the franchise, Games Workshop, intentionally leaves parts of its stories ambiguous or outright confusing as a way for its fans to fill in the blanks.

This is to facilitate the Warhammer 40K tabletop war game, which the lore is a servant to. Those blanks and spaces in the stories of 40K are for creative players to insert with their own war stories and armies, as to not simply relive what Games Workshop makes themselves.

With people around the world suddenly stuck at home with more free time because of the coronavirus (COVID-19), now is the perfect time to get stuck into this dense world.

Looking around for ways to get into 40K will yield countless articles and introductions to the world, but today we’re going to point you in the direction of the 40K Theories YouTube channel.

40K Theories is great because of the way it caters to every kind of 40K fan. If you, like we mentioned above, are just getting into this fandom and are at a complete loss, it offers the “40K Lore For Newcomers” playlist.

This series of videos, which is 63 strong at the time of writing, can introduce anyone to every single part of 40K no matter how broad or minute.

We know 63 videos is rather ludicrous, especially when some of these videos can be multiple hours in length. The thing about Warhammer 40K, however, is that once you get into things you won’t be able to stop, and you will blow through all those videos.

That being said we will offer a place to start. The Horus Heresy is a central event to the world of 40K and one of its most important happenings. Watch some videos about that before moving onto other things.

Once you’re up to speed on the basics that’s where the 40K Theories channel gets even better, true to its name. The channel then goes into the realm of speculation and covering up some of those blank spots we mentioned earlier. In this way the channel caters to fans of every kind, from complete beginner to absolute lore nerd.

List the playlist for newcomers there are multiple ones for those wanting to learn more. We suggest the lists for the 40K timeline, Xernos and Imperium.

For the longer videos made by 40K Theories they work equally well as podcasts, so feel free to chuck them on in the background as you you eagerly look up new miniatures and books to buy to fuel your new Warhammer obsession.

If this just isn’t your kind of thing or you’re looking for even more YouTube to watch, check out our previous You Should be Watching feature.
