Regulations published by Stella Ndabeni-Abraham states that “all internet sites operating within .zaDNA top level domain name must have a landing page with a visible link to www.sacoronavirus.co.za”.
As we fall under that regulation, we are required to link to the Department of Health’s website but we’re taking that a step further.
Every morning and every afternoon we will publish an update regarding COVID-19 in South Africa. For the purpose of these updates we will refer solely to the following sources of information:

We understand that folks are doing amazing things with data-viz and there are comments from experts that can help, but our goal with these updates is to provide you, our reader, with accurate information from trusted sources. If the source is not reliable, it will not be linked here.

As we wrap up a shorter week, South Africans are settling in for an additional two weeks of lockdown with restrictions expected to be eased gradually over the next few weeks.
The number of tests conducted has now climbed to 95 060.
The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in South Africa is 2 605 as of 16th April.
Sadly there have been 48 deaths, with the Eastern Cape and Limpopo reporting their first deaths attributed to COVID-19.
In slightly more hopeful news, recoveries from the disease now sit at 903, a figure that the minister of health is encouraged by.
Minister of Transport, Fikile Mbalula, also this morning provided a report regarding traffic over the Easter weekend.
The minister says that 104 140 vehicles were stopped and checked at roadblocks. As many as 236 vehicles were impounded and 171 will remain impounded as they are not roadworthy.
Perhaps most impressive is that all of this was managed with just 480 roadblocks.
The minister added that 719 arrests were made for road traffic law violations.
