The LG Velvet is a premium mid-range 5G phone that could be revealed next month

Earlier this month, LG revealed some designs it had in mind for the future of its smartphones. At the time we noted that we wanted to see something more innovative, and while we’re yet to see it, the South Korean manufacturer has served up a new teaser video for what it calls the LG Velvet.

It remains to be seen if this is simply a codename, or whether this will be the name of the device when it goes to market, but the video pasted below showcases a rather handsome smartphone.

The video also provides some details about the LG Velvet, such us it sporting a Qualcomm Snapdragon 5G 765 chipset internally. This silicon is specifically designed for the mid-range space, and as such makes us think that the Velvet will be a premium mid-range offering, rather than a new flagship phone that we initially thought it would be.

Other design elements include a teardrop-shaped notch for the selfie camera, narrower bezels up front around the display, as well as an interesting rear camera housing for what seems to be four lenses. LG has not provided any further info on that front, but we do know that there will be at least four colour options for the Velvet – white, black, green, and orange/pink.

There’s also a 3.5mm headphone jack for those not wanting to wireless just yet, and that’s about all we can spot for now.

In terms of a launch, nothing has been hinted at yet, but it is rumoured that the LG Velvet could see the light of day in mid-May. As for whether LG plans to launch it locally though, remains to be seen, but with the LG V50 ThinQ 5G arriving, there is hope.
