Fan game Bionicle: Quest for Mata Nui is a nostalgia main line

While fan games are relatively common we have another impressive one on the slate today in the form of a LEGO’s dead theme Bionicle.

Subtitled “Quest for Mata Nui”, this game has been in the cooker for some time – six years to be exact – and now has a fancy trailer to wow onlookers.

And wow it does, because the level of fidelity here is rather impressive, as are the animations and what is shown of the gameplay.

“Set during the first year of Bionicle, it follows the story of the Toa on their quest to collect the 6 great masks of power to rid the island of Mata Nui of the evil influence called Makuta,” reads the video description.

That mix of words either means nothing to you or has scratched a part of your brain you may not have used since the 2000s when Bionicle was at its peak.

If you’re fully hyped after just two and a half minutes you will be happy to know that there’s even more to see here.

Released alongside the trailer is a rather beefy gameplay walkthrough clocking in at twelve and a half minutes.

Like the trailer this video is suitably impressive showing off much more of the hack ‘n’ slash combat, some of the light RPG mechanics and even more of that impressive animation.

While no multiplayer is had here, support for up to six players (so that’s all of the Toa) will apparently be supported. We’re not sure how the combat and the game world will change to having that many players at once, however.

For now we’ll need to wait and see if Bionicle: Quest for Mata Nui ever sees the light of day. Fan creations like this, as good as they may be, are usually shuttered by the licence owners after a big reveal like this. Hopefully that doesn’t happen here as LEGO has done so little with this IP in recent years.

Those wanting to keep up with the project can do so by subscribing to the channel hosting these videos, following on Twitter or joining the Discord.
