Into the Breach gets support for nine more languages, Linux and touch

The fantastic mech strategy game Into the Breach has received a rather substantial update after years of dormancy.

The game from FTL developer Subset Games last got patched in November 2018 when controller support was added to on PC.

As for what has gone into the title now in April 2020, the first big change is support for nine more languages on top of the base English.

Localisation is now available for Brazilian-Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Japanese., Polish, Russian, Simplified Chinese and Spanish. The large amount of text in the game is the reason it has taken so long to get these translations.

“There is now a fully native Linux version of Into the Breach! If you already own the game on any storefront that normally supports Linux (Steam, Humble, or GOG), you should soon have the Linux version available for download,” Writes Subset Games.

Adding to the compatability of the game together with Linux support is touch controls. For those playing the game on a PC with a touchscreen (usually found in laptops) tapping on the display at any time will switch controls over to it.

This new feature is particularly exciting as it may mean that Android and iOS ports are on the way. Outside of the PC the game is available on the Nintendo Switch, so that’s the way to play the game on the go for now.

While those are the three mainline additions touted by the developer, they’re not all that’s accompanying this 1.2 version of the game. Mod compatibility, an engine update and weapon purchasing rebalancing.

Mod compatibility may suffer due to the update, but this is being worked on in conjunction with the modding community. Buying weapons from the game’s store has now been permanently reduced to encourage experimentation in combat and, finally, there’s been some modernising done to the engine which most people won’t notice.

The full patch notes for version 1.2 of Into the Breach can be found on the Subset Games forum.
