UPDATED: Where to stream President Ramaphosa’s address this evening

UPDATE 19:07 21/04/2020

The Presidency has announced that President Cyril Ramaphosa will address the nation at 20:30 on Tuesday 21st March.

You can view the eNCA stream on YouTube at this URL.

Original story below.

As South Africans prepare to enter a fifth week of lockdown, the Presidency has announced that President Cyril Ramaphosa will address the nation on Tuesday evening.

What will the president be addressing exactly? At the time of writing we are not sure. The Presidency did state that the address would highlight “additional economic and social relief measures that form part of the national response to the COVID-19 pandemic”, but that’s rather vague.

Nevertheless, we’re sure South Africans will be eager to hear what the president says so we’re going to share the channels we’ve been watching the president on, here.

DStv Now is usually only available to subscribers, but when lockdown was announced, MultiChoice opened up select news channels to stream for free.

You can sign up for a free DStv Now account here.

Sticking with MultiChoice channels for a moment, Showmax has added news channels to its livestream offering and if we had to pick a favourite, it’s these.

SABC News and Newzroom Afrika are both part of that offering and the stream quality is superb. Aside from tuning in on your TV, we highly recommend this as the best avenue for hearing the president’s address.

Showmax offers a free, 14 day trial for those who don’t have an account yet. You can sign up for Showmax here.

For those who don’t want to use a MultiChoice service there are other options. Both the Government and Presidency Twitter accounts have hosted live streams of the address in recent weeks and we suspect the same will happen today.

Aside from the stream we highly recommend following the South African Government and Presidency Twitter accounts for accurate news directly from the source.

Generally, these accounts also tweet out the address as it is presented so you can follow along more easily if data is a concern for you.

Looking to YouTube, our favourite source for streams from the government is SABC. Usually eNCA host a stream as well, so we recommend tuning in there if SABC’s stream is spotty or not available for some bizarre reason.

For now we wait for news as to when the Ramaphosa will address the nation. We will, of course, update this story with an embedded stream and links to streams once they become available.
