Zoom to release feature to report people Zoombombing

Zoom has become far and away the most popular videoconferencing platform now that more people are working from home and social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic and national lockdowns.

Given its meteoric rise in users, several security issues have cropped up, and are bing addressed, but they is another problem on the platform – Zoombombing.

This is when an uninvited guest “hijacks” a group Zoom call to their own nefarious ends, with it often resulting in screen sharing pornography or other graphic and shocking videos.

There are workarounds to stop this from happening, but Zoom is also going a step further by adding a new feature which allows users to report people Zoombombing.

According to PC Mag, the reporting tool is going to be made available via a update set to rollout to users on 26th April.

“This feature will generate a report which will be sent to the Zoom Trust and Safety team to evaluate any misuse of the platform and block a user if necessary,” the platform explained in some recent update notes.

The update adds that both account owners and administrators will be able to turn on the feature once it becomes available, but there has been no additional information released as to what will happen to those reported.

That said, the forthcoming update is very much security-focused, with new encryption elements and more steps added to assist in keeping user’s information better guarded.
