ISPA’s online safety tips for children are well worth a read

Lockdown has us all spending a lot more time online and if you have children, their safety while online would naturally be a concern.

In that regard the Internet Service Providers’ Association (ISPA) is constantly working to provide parents and guardians with resources that can help inform online safety.

“For many, the Internet has emerged as a virtual life saver that enables the continuation of large parts of our ordinary, pre-pandemic lives. It’s likely that Internet usage will surge during the remainder of 2020 as more South Africans discover the incredible utility of the worldwide web. Increasing numbers of us online for the first time means the Education, Awareness and Privacy online safety mantra becomes even more important,” said ISPA in a mail sent to Hypertext.

The collection of resources can be found here. Some of the subject matter covered includes installing a good security solution, limiting screen time and more obvious things like not telling strangers where you live.

Something else mentioned is enabling parental controls on mobile devices. Many routers also have parental controls so that these can be managed remotely.

The collection of safety tips can be accessed on ISPA’s website for free.
