Warner Bros. pushes back release of The Batman, Shazam 2 and The Flash over COVID-19

In recent weeks we’ve been covering the impact that COVID-19 has had on the film industry, with most studios being forced to push back the theatrical releases for many of their larger projects. Superhero films in particular have caught our eye, with the likes of Wonder Woman 1984 affected as a result.

Now Warner Bros. has had to delay the release of many of its upcoming DC superhero projects. The most high-profile of which being the Matt Reeves-directed Batman film starring Robert Pattinson in the titular role.

According to Deadline, the film will still be coming out in 2021, but the original release date of 25th June is now 1st October.

Two other DC projects have been affected too, both of which are scheduled for release in 2022. The first is The Flash, which is now release on 3rd June. Joining it in the delay is Shazam 2, which was suppose to be release on 1st April, but will now hit cinemas on 4th November.

Should concerns surrounding COVID-19 and people heading to cinemas persist, it should be interesting to see what measures the Hollywood Studios take. In recent weeks we’ve seen a number of smaller projects head to streaming platforms instead of theatres, so could the same approach be adopted for larger, big budget films like Wonder Woman?

Either way this global pandemic is having a significant impact on every industry at the moment.
