The Nokia C2 is the latest entry-level phone you can buy for R1500

Like many other firms, HMD Global opted against revealing a slew of smartphones during the now-cancelled MWC 20, and decided to unveil its new offerings in mid-March. The star of the show was the 5G-supporting Nokia 8.3, but for fans of the brands entry-level devices there’s the Nokia C2.

The low-cost device is now available to purchase in South Africa, with it offering some decent specs given the R1 499 recommended price tag.

Most notably is supports 4G connectivity, with a large 5.7″ HD+ screen up front. Internally the setup is rather modest, with a quad-core 1.4GHz processor available and 1GB of RAM, which means it won’t be a multitasking wizard. Luckily though it does feature a relatively large battery at 2 800mAh, along with a 5MP selfie camera and a similarly sized one on the rear.

Added to this is a dedicated Google Assistant button if you’re in need of such things, and sadly no dual SIM flavour exists for this device, with a single nano SIM slot on offer.

Like all new Nokia Mobile devices, the Nokia C2 is running a pure version of Android 9.0 (Go Edition). There’s also 16GB of onboard storage available, with a microSD slot good for up to 64GB.

We’re pleased to see the cyan coloured version (pictured in the header) of the Nokia C2 is coming to South Africa alongside the charcoal variant, with both being sold locally at selected retailers from today onward.

If you’re looking for a serviceable entry-level phone that won’t break the bank, the Nokia C2 may be one worth investigating.
