Huawei P40 Lite expected to launch locally later this month

Later this month, Huawei is expected to launch its latest P40 series smartphones in South Africa. Initially that only included the P40 and P40 Pro, but now that includes the P40 Lite as well, with Huawei Mobile South Africa confirming that the premium mid-range device will be landing locally.

Unfortunately a precise release date is unknown, as is recommended pricing at this stage, with the impact on supply chains as a result of COVID-19 a likely cause.

The Lite versions of P series smartphones have always proved a popular option for South African consumers, and based on what the P40 Lite is sporting, the same will ring true here.

To that Huawei has opted for a 6.4″ FullView Display up front, with a round punch hole on the device to house the selfie camera. For the main shooting option on the rear, a quad-lens setup is present, with a large 48MP lens taking care if most shots.

As for the internal specifications, the Kirin 810 chipset is present. It’s a 7nm-designed option that serves up eight cores, but sadly no support for 5G. Graphics performance, for mobile gaming in particular, does get a boost though, with the Mali G52 GPU present. There’s also a generous 6GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage to call upon.

Added to this is a massive 4 200mAh battery, with 40W supercharging support also on offer.

Huawei plans to make three different colour options available locally – Sakura Pink, Midnight Black or Crush Green, although we must be honest that the gradient colour designs of previous years will be missed.

When the P40 Lite lands locally, it will be sold at local retailers, with the dedicated Huawei online store also stocking the device.

Once pricing and a release dates for the entire P40 series is confirmed, we’ll be sure to keep our readers in the loop.
