With the COVID-19 pandemic still raging around the world it remains vital that people practice social distancing at all times. This has been preached by just about every health professional and organisation under the sun, but now it’s coming from a different source… Sonic the Hedgehog.
The official Twitter account for the franchise recently shared a pair of posts related to this.
The first is the header image above, a riff on the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 game title screen featuring Sonic and Tails. Being responsible anthropomorphic videogame characters in 2020, they each have their own logo to stand inside.
Aside from this clever yet simple joke is the small text underneath the main illustration – “please stay at least 6912 pixels apart.” That amount of pixels apparently comes to 72 inches, which is around six feet or 1.8 metres, this being the recommended amount of space to leave between people when social distancing.
Next up is another post, also recently uploaded. There are now four gifs added to Giphy, all of which relate to Sonic in the times of a pandemic. Truly a weird sentence we just had to write there but 2020 has made us numb to anything being too crazy.

This isn’t even the first time this week a childhood icon had to tackle the challenging topic of a worldwide pandemic. No, seriously.
A few days ago the official LEGO account shared an animation of Batman explaining certain aspects of COVID-19 with the help of Alfred.
This is the versions of the characters from The LEGO Batman Movie. The voice actors for Batman (Will Arnett) and Alfred (Ralph Fiennes) borrowed their talents to the short.
LEGO Batman has an important message for all you Batfans on how you too can be a super hero! ????
