Here’s a teachable moment: Don’t tweet out your Zoom meeting ID and password, Government

Since people around the world have have started working from home, video conferencing platforms have become incredibly popular.

At the same time, miscreants have taken interest in compromising video chat accounts and jumping into video conferences to sow havoc.

Zoom is perhaps the most well known of these apps being compromised and while other apps are not immune to cybercriminals, today’s story is focused on Zoom.

South Africa’s Parliament has turned to Zoom to continue conducting its business and this morning something strange happened.

While Parliament usually encourages the public to watch the proceedings and be active citizens this morning Parliament essentially opened up the flood gates.

Yes, you are seeing that image correctly. The person behind Parliament’s Twitter account decided it was a good idea to provide a link to a Zoom chat, the meeting ID and the password. The tweet is still up as of time of writing.

The meeting ID and password has since been changed as we cannot join the meeting anymore.

Can you guess what happened once that meeting started?

If you guessed porn flooded the Zoom call, you would be correct.

Of course, the call wasn’t hacked because as we can see above, Parliament tweeted out the meeting ID and password giving anybody with an internet connection the ability to join the call. It’s less of a hack then and more of a person using information published on a public platform.

EWN reports that racial slurs were also being thrown around.

Stay safe folks and keep your Zoom meetings private or among friends to avoid a XXX surprise at 9AM.
