Growing up in the early 2000s meant that reality TV was all the craze and it seems Twitch is looking to take us back to that era in a sense.

The live streaming platform is reportedly looking to expand its content offering to include talk shows, dating shows and other reality TV.

This is according to an internal document seen by Bloomberg which alleges that Twitch (which is owned by ecommerce giant Amazon) is looking to spend $50 000 to $250 000 a week on reality TV shows.

As Bloomberg points out, that figure is rather low compared to the budget for something like Survivor (which reportedly costs $2 million an episode to produce) but $50 000 could change the life of a Twitch streamer.

The shows will reportedly appeal to “male gaming enthusiasts between the ages of 18 and 24, and anyone between 18 and 24 interested in general entertainment”.

Twitch isn’t just looking for reality TV that folks can watch passively, it’s also reportedly looking for interactive content that brings viewing and playing games together.

That having been said, Twitch is not looking for shows about escape rooms as those are constantly pitched to it.

Is this a good idea? Reality TV can be very hit or miss and unfortunately you don’t know if you have a hit on your hands until you’ve created it.

Talk shows with some of Twitch’s biggest creators could be interesting.

Of course there’s no confirmation that this will indeed happen but we’re going to keep an eye on Twitch to see if our trash TV dreams come true.
