Rainbow Six Siege is getting a South African Operator

During a livestream this afternoon, Ubisoft revealed what’s in store for the next season of Rainbow Six Siege titled, Operation Steel Wave.

While we aren’t regular players of the game, today’s news piqued our interest because one of the two Operators joining the game hails from South Africa.

That Operator is Melusi and her backstory has her as the leader of an anti-poaching unit.

“Melusi signed up with the South African National Defence Force to broaden her skillset and fund her field ranger training. After an ambush left her badly wounded, she resigned from the military and – as the heart of the Inkaba Task Force Anti-Poaching Unit – began training local women in tracking, interception, and surveillance,” reads a blurb about the character.

Melusi is classed as a Defender and she has the Banshee deployable electronic gadget.

The developer says that the gadget slows attackers in a direct line of sight.

“The Banshee can also be used as an intel gadget as it produces an identifiable sound when an attacker entire its range,” adds Ubisoft.

The other Operator joining Melusi is Ace, an Attacker from Norway.

“As a part of the Norwegian Home Guard, Ace acquired a heroic reputation. After being accepted into the Forsvarets Spesialkommando, on a joint UN operation in Somalia, Ace emerged saving Kali’s life. The offer to join NIGHTHAVEN swiftly followed. Ace is equipped with S.E.L.M.A., a throwable and stickable device that will stick to any vertical surface and slowly destroy up to 3 panels, one after the other. The S.E.L.M.A gadget can also be thrown at almost any defensive gadget and destroy it with its arms or water explosive,” reads a blurb about Ace.

Ace joins the Operator crew.

In addition to the new operators the map House is being reworked.

Other gameplay updates coming down with Operation Steel Wave include:

  • Unified MMR
  • Amaru Buff
  • Proximity Alarm
  • Addition of Echo Elite set

Players will also be able to take part in a test of the upcoming changes from 19th May.

“The Test Server is an alternative version of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, allowing players to test upcoming gameplay features that will make their way into the main game itself. Since this is a testing environment, a consistent gameplay experience is not guaranteed on the Test Server,” explains Ubisoft.

Players who make use of the test server are encouraged to submit feedback over on the R6 Fix platform.

The test server will be exclusive to those playing on PC.
