The Seagate Solidarity e-Race tournament kicks off later this week

With most forms of sport on hiatus at the moment due to COVID-19 and varying degrees of lockdown, fans have had to turn other forms of entertainment at this time. The same goes for governing bodies, with the likes of Formula 1, the NFL and the Premier League utilising esports and athletes as a means of keeping people interested.

It is with that idea in mind that local distributor Rectron and data storage firm Seagate are partnering with Super Car Lifestyle on an esports tournament – the Seagate Solidarity e-Race.

The event itself is happening later this week, and those interested in registering for it have less than two days to do so, with registration closing at 7:59 on 21st May. A minute later, the actual tournament kicks off and will run until 23:00 on 24th May.

As for what’s up for grabs, as the name of the tournament suggests, Seagate features with the company giving away a 500GB Seagate Firecuda gaming SSD. There will also be other prizes on offer, with cash and prizes totalling an estimated R70 000. The big ticket item of that amount is the share of R30 000 for winners during the esports event.

The added incentive here, also detailed in the name, is that your entry will result in a contribution to the Solidarity Fund, which is currently being used to assist people in the country impacted by COVID-19.

Shifting to the finer details of the tournament, Assetto Corsa Ultimate Edition will be the racing title utilised to determine a winner, with the Nordschleife Track the chosen race for competitions.

Organisers add that a specific car will be used for each round, which should help keep things interesting and help to test the skill of the drivers competing.

Being handled by Electronic Sport Africa, the page listing for the competition notes that there are 200 teams that can compete, with 53 already registering at the time of writing.

If you want to test your mettle, potentially win some prizes and support a worthwhile cause during lockdown, head here for more information.
