Gwent has a successful first day on Steam

Gwent, the standalone card game spin-off from The Witcher series, has finally made the long voyage to Steam after being available on several other platforms.

It’s been 24 hours since the game launched on Valve storefront and it has been rather smooth sailing so far.

At the time of writing the game has exactly one thousand user reviews. Of that thousand 86 percent are positive leaving Gwent with a Very Positive overall rating.

“The Steam release of GWENT features full cross-play and synchronization functionality with other versions of the game, meaning Steam players can compete with players on iOS, Android, and GOG.COM, as well as carry over all items and progress between these platforms. In addition, the release also includes Steam achievements and Steam Trading Cards integration,” Reads a press release sent to us, explaining some of the reasons why players may be leaving those positive reviews.

We understand that, due to the free nature of the game, it’s entirely possible that existing fans of the title have wondered over to Steam to leave a positive review for a game they already like.

That being said, reading through the reviews, even new players seem to be having a good time. Even those bringing their accounts over from other platforms enjoy the ability to play the game where they choose.

Gwent is free to play on Steam and other platforms, so give it a go if you’re so inclined. We know getting into a new card game is a rather large undertaking, but the current pandemic has left many with some extra free time and you may as well pop in at no cost to see what things are like.

Looking back that last paragraph really reads like “the first hit is free” but let’s not think about that.

Finally there’s a launch trailer for the Steam version to watch in the embed below.
