Dock the Dragon 2 – Get to grips with SpaceX tech ahead of its launch this week

Later this week, NASA and SpaceX will send a a crew to the International Space Station (ISS) aboard the Crew Dragon spacecraft, SpaceX’s final test before NASA certification.

It’s the first time SpaceX will ferry humans to the ISS and given how important this launch is for both NASA and SpaceX, we’re keen to see how the launch pans out.

While checking up on details regarding the launch, which is due to take place on 27th May at 16:33 EDT (22:33 CAT) we noted a number of activities you can take part in ahead of the launch.

Our favourite so far is the ISS docking simulator from SpaceX.

Here you’re tasked with docking the Crew Dragon with the ISS using the controls an astronaut would use to dock the capsule. It’s slow going, but it can be a lot of fun if you are patient and precise.

We were not either of those things and we’re just going to say it ended badly.

Not in the mood for games that you can easily fail because you think things are moving to slowly?

NASA’s Kennedy Space Center on YouTube has created seven virtual tours you can take of the facility, the spacecraft and lots more.

You won’t need a VR headset to enjoy the videos but it is recommended.

You can find that playlist here.

Of course, the real drawer here is the actual launch and the docking of the Crew Dragon.

NASA has of course outlined a programme for the launch that you can view here. Take note that all times are EDT and you’ll need to translate those times into your region.

All of the coverage will take place on NASA’s YouTube channel which you can find here.
