Hellboy creator auctions off Pokémon sketches for charity

Mike Mignola, best known as the creator of Hellboy, has been creating and posting various sketches in the last few weeks of both characters he has made, as well as those borrowed from other IPs. This has all been done for charity, and now you can bid on special ones from the Pokémon franchise.

On this eBay store various original Mignola sketches have been put on the bidding block to raise money for World Central Kitchen which, among other things, is ensuring that vulnerable communities are getting food during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Last week Mignola sold off a lot of four Thundercats pieces. At that time his work had raised $115 000 (~R2 million), and that was before the Thundercats sketches were sold. We imagine that number is now much higher and will continue to go up as the Pokémon art becomes available.

Right now only one sketch – of Nidoqueen and Lickitung done in pencil – is available to buy. At the time of writing bidding sits at around $455 (~R8 021) and will remain available for just over two days.

You can see this sketch in the embed below but, if it’s not to your liking, three more pieces should be going live as the week progresses.

Sketches featuring Charmander, Psyduck & Jigglypuff as well as Weezing & Slowbro will go up soon.

Of the four pieces announced to be come available, one is particularly special. As seen above, the work of art featuring Pikachu, Squirtle and Bulbasaur is the only one that has been given colour. If you scroll through all of Mignola’s work posted to Twitter you’ll see that barely any of his sketches ever get this treatment, so we expect this one to bring in a lot of money.

The fact that it features the series mascot and two of the original three starters will help things too, we’re sure.

It should be noted that the eBay listings have delivery set to the US only. We assume anyone with enough money to be bidding will have a plan in place (a service like Aramex) to get it to their country of choice if they’re outside of America.
