Here’s a name you probably haven’t heard in a TikTok of a clock – Snapchat.

The social media platform is grabbing headlines today following its decision to stop promoting President Donald Trump’s account in its Discover section.

According a report from the BBC, Snapchat said that it would not “amplify voices who incite racial violence and injustice”.

The decision follows a thread on Twitter from Trump about protests outside the White House. The thread stated that had protestors breached the fence “they would have been greeted with the most vicious dogs, and most ominous weapons, I have ever seen”.

“We simply cannot promote accounts in America that are linked to people who incite racial violence, whether they do so on or off our platform,” said chief executive officer of Snapchat’s holding company Snap, Evan Spiegel in a memo to staff.

“We may continue to allow divisive people to maintain an account on Snapchat, as long as the content that is published on Snapchat is consistent with our community guidelines, but we will not promote that account or content in any way,” Spiegel added.

Snapchat’s decision stands in stark contrast to Facebook’s inaction regarding Trump’s social media activity.
