Bosch launches Help Connect system for motorcycle safety

Motorcycle accidents can be rather grim and in the event of an incident every second counts.

For this reason Bosch has announced it has developed an emergency call system for motorcycles it calls Help Connect.

The system uses an intelligent crash algorithm installed in a motorcycle’s inertial sensor unit. This is in turn connects to a smartphone app. The result is that should a rider be involved in an accident, emergency services can be alerted to assist the rider as quickly as possible.

The idea here is that because a rider often has their smartphone close to their body, should they be flung off of the motorcycle, emergency services can locate them more effectively.

Bosch says that the system doesn’t require an additional control unit and as such can be implemented into motorcycles more effectively.

The firm says that the emergency call service will be made available in Germany, but users in Austria, Belgium, France, Italy, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom will be able to contact the Bosch Service Centre in German or English.

“Bosch went to great lengths in developing the automatic emergency call system. Some 18 crash tests were carried out solely to analyze specific accident scenarios and demonstrate the functionality of Help Connect,” the firm said in a press release.

It’s a rather nifty solution and we’re keen to see it spread throughout the world.
