EA will bring crowd noises to empty Premier League broadcasts

After being put on hold due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the 2019/20 Premier League season will resume again come 17th June, albeit without any crowds which provide the familiar chanting and singing which football is known for.

To bring some of that back EA is getting involved with Sky Sports. The publisher will provide the Premier League broadcasts with the familiar noises of a packed stadium to emulate what you expect to hear when tuning into a match.

“In partnership with EA SPORTS FIFA, Sky Sports has created a range of bespoke and team-specific crowd noises and chants to bring the vibrant atmosphere of the Premier League to the restart. Viewers can select the Sky channel to watch with the added sound or with stadium noise,” Sky Sports writes.

EA, of course, is in a unique position to do this as it has been creating the wildly successful FIFA series of games for decades now.

Unfortunately no further details have been provided on the exact specifics of what EA is doing here. Is the publisher simply pulling the stadium-specific crowd noises from the latest FIFA game or are they doing something more dynamic?

If you’re in the UK or have some other access to Sky Sports the crowd noise feature is an option along with a highlight recap. The details of these can be found here.

We’ll have to wait and see if this feature spreads to other countries or if broadcasts outside of Sky Sports will be eerily quiet come next week.
