As South Africa isn’t the biggest market out there it’s always a bit of a coin toss when it comes to availability of those big, expensive collector’s editions of games. Thankfully for us locally, the collector’s edition for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 remaster will be available when it launches.
At the time of writing retailers such as BT Games, Raru and Nexus Hub all have the edition up for sale. BT Games and Raru both have it priced at R1 999, while Nexus Hub is just slightly cheaper at R1 970.
Only the PlayStation 4 version of this seems to be available in South Africa.
As far as what’s included, it’s a bit barren for a collector’s edition, but it’s rather special for those who like to skate in real life too. Inside the box there’s an actual Birdhouse skateboard deck.
Birdhouse is, of course, Tony Hawk’s company, so this is the perfect fit.
As for the value here it’s rather decent. The game on its own, at least for the console physical editions, is being sold for between R849 and R885, but this seems to be a bit of a discount off of the usual price of R899 it’s listed for.
It should be noted the deck is just that, a deck without wheels or trucks. Around R1 100 for a Birdhouse deck and a bit of DLC is what you’re looking at here.

With the ongoing pandemic and the trade and travel restrictions implemented by the South African lockdown supply of these luxury items was a bit in the wind, so it’s nice to see something like this available locally.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 remaster is available on 4th September. The stores mentioned above have that same day listed for the release of the collector’s edition locally.
