My Digital World sees all of Facebook’s digital literacy programmes going online

Facebook has today launched My Digital World, a digital skills programme designed to equip Sub-Saharan Africans with the skills they need to navigate the world online.

My Digital World is comprised of all of Facebook’s digital literacy programmes including:

  • Safe Online with Facebook
  • Ilizwe Lam
  • eZibo

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic all of these programmes will be hosted online.

The training is free to youth ages 13 and up and will take the form of 90 minute long webinars, demos and virtual discussions with instructors.

“We remain committed to equipping young people and the general public across Sub-Saharan Africa with the vital digital skills needed to navigate the digital world, especially during these challenging times of COVID-19,” said policy programs manager for Economic Impact and Digital Literacy at Facebook, Phil Oduor.

“Never has it been more important to invest in, and train communities and the next generation of leaders to better understand and utilise the power of digital tools to take full advantage of what the internet has to offer,” Oduor added.

The My Digital World programme will also include modules that highlight online safety, privacy, news and media literacy and digital citizenship.

In addition, Facebook will use a marketing campaign to highlight best practices, tips and polls over on Facebook and Instagram.

“Facebook is committed to the well-being of individuals and communities visiting its platforms and has invested in initiatives designed to build awareness on responsible online behaviour, critical thinking and understanding of social issues,” the social network said.
