GOG has made a rather tempting offer to get people into their Galaxy 2.0 game launcher – a free copy of The Witcher 3 for those who already own the game on other platforms.

Getting a copy is rather easy: download GOG Galaxy 2.0 here and connect your account from Steam, Origin, Epic Games, PlayStation or Xbox. Should you own the game on any of those platforms, it will be detected and and an option will appear allowing you to get a GOG code for The Witcher 3.

If you miss the option initially a banner for the claim is visible on the Galaxy 2.0 homepage as well as the games library.

Connecting an account from one of those other stores is done like this:

  • Click on “Add games & friends” in Galaxy 2.0
  • Select “Connect platforms”
  • Under “community integrations” find the platform of your choice and click on the purple “Connect” button
  • Log into your account

That’s it. More information on this process can be found on the GOG support site, but if you click through any additional dialogues you should be fine.

While this is all simple in theory there are some caveats. Owners of The Witcher 3 on GOG and Nintendo Switch need to take note of some downsides.

Those who already own the game on GOG can get an additional copy to give to a friend, but only if they already own it on another one of the supported platforms. There was some confusion about this initially but it has since been clarified on Twitter.

Nintendo Switch owners are out just out of luck here entirely. “Since there is no Nintendo Switch integration, owners of the Switch edition of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition won’t be eligible to benefit from this action,” reads an entry on the FAQ for this promotion.

The rest of the FAQ is available here should you get stuck while claiming your free copy.

Finally if you, for some reason, own this game on every single platform, you will still only receive one free GOG code.
