Online concert hopes to raise funds to make over one million masks

At the end of June the non-profit company AfricaMasks4All will be hosting a concert. As gatherings of more than 50 people is out of the question as of time of writing, the concert will take place online.

The concert is free and will be livestreamed on both Facebook as well as YouTube via the stream embedded below on 28th June. We recommend clicking the video and setting a reminder if you’d like to watch the concert.

The stream will run from 12:00 to 21:00.

“Since the start of the COVID-19 outbreak in South Africa and the lockdown, there have been a number of very cool streams, but few of this duration and diversity. The artists are really going all out to make this a memorable event. While our main ambition is to raise funds for AfricaMasks4All, as an NPC, we want to be able to also give people a nice distraction while supporting a good cause,” explained AfricaMasks4All director, Grant De Sousa.

While the concert is free to watch, during the stream viewers are encouraged to make a donation via Back A Buddy. Donations made will be used to make and distribute cloth masks to people who can’t afford them. The goal set by the organisation is to make and distribute one million masks. A donation of R25 (or $1.40) buys one mask and the fundraising goal hopes to raise R25 million.

As for who will be performing, a full list of the artists thus far follows on below.

“We’re very excited by our roster and the calibre of artists that have come forward to give their time and talents so generously. We have immense gratitude to all the artists that jumped on board to make this happen, our fantastic host Paul Snodgrass as well as our venue sponsor,” added De Sousa.

At time of writing the Masks4All has amassed R29 226 of its R25 million goal.
