The Order: 1886 developers acquired by Facebook

Ready At Dawn, the developer known for making the PlayStation 4 exclusive The Order: 1886, has been acquired by Facebook and will join its Oculus Studios team.

This comes by way of an official announcement on the Oculus website which points out the four VR titles which the developer has created: Lone Echo, Echo Arena, Echo Combat, and Lone Echo II. That last game is still in development and we can hope that, by working so closely with Oculus and its owner Facebook, the game can produce something special for the VR platform.

“As part of the Oculus Studios team, Ready At Dawn will continue creating memorable, immersive, and innovative VR content for gamers around the world as an independently-operated studio. We’re thrilled to welcome them to the family,” Says Mike Verdu, vice president AR/VR content at Facebook.

While that statement seems to indicate more VR games from Ready At Dawn in the future, none have been announced just yet. Lone Echo II will be the studio’s focus going forward and will ship with the help of its new parent company.

For those who care about the people behind the games it seems that Ready At Dawn will remain operating as is, remaining at its current offices and keeping the entire staff that was there before the acquisition. While that could always change, it is nice to know that no one has lost their livelihoods because of this business move.

Putting aside the problematic company that Facebook is, this may also mean that we don’t see anything happen with The Order: 1886 in the future. While it never quite took off as a fan favourite or a solid franchise, it did have its supporters clamouring for a sequel. With the game published by Sony back in 2015, it seems very likely that this is now an abandoned property.
