Update 2 for Doom Eternal focuses on multiplayer

Back in May, Doom Eternal received Update 1, the first major set of changes to the game. it unfortunately also brought Denuvo Anti-Cheat to the game, leading to massive – and some say justifiable – backlash. This has since been removed but it has still created some trepidation for Update 2, which has just been released.

No, Denuvo Anti-Cheat or some other intrusive software has not tagged along this time around. The good news continues, but only for those still playing the Battlemode multiplayer of the game, or those looking for more customisation.

Update 2 introduces a new Battlemode map called Torment, an industrial looking area that also has its fair share of vegetation.

“The UAC fled this outpost after the Slayer prevented Hell’s invasion of Earth. The Titans, once used as research specimens, remain eternal prisoners of this unholy excavation,” reads the description of Torment.

Battlemode also gets an improvement in latency to make matches smoother. Other small improvements have also been made to XP boosters, the photo mode, and some of the menus. Those who prefer playing demons will also be happy to see custom key binds for all of them.

A new event is underway ending on 2nd July. The event, called “Castle Grayscale” has colourless skins for a few of the playable demons. Castle Grayscale has its own dedicated events page here.

After that from 2nd July to 6th August the “Hack it to the Future” event kicks off. It too has a dedicated page and adds retro skins to the game, some of which you can see in the header image above.

Finally there’s the usual long list of smaller fixes and squashed bugs, all of which are available in the full patch notes available on the Slayer’s Club.

One fix that is worth noting is this – “Fixed a number of exploits in the campaign that would allow the player to climb outside the maps”. We hope this doesn’t significantly impact the Doom Eternal speedrunning community, something that the developers of this game have seen themselves.
