Samsung expected to launch Note 20, Fold 2 & Z Flip 5G on 5th August

It is that time of the week again when we need to dredge up some rumours regarding some upcoming smartphones. This time around it’s the Galaxy Note 20, which we’ve already seen in rendered form a couple of weeks ago.

There are no renders to speak of here, but there is some news regarding the next Galaxy Unpacked event that Samsung is planning to host virtually. While the South Korean firm is yet to formally announce a date, it is expected to unveil the Note 20 on 5th August, alongside two other flagship pieces of hardware – a second iteration of Galaxy Fold and 5G-supporting Z Flip.

The source for this rumour is serial leaker Jon Prosser, whose track record is fairly solid when it comes to these sort of things.

Prosser adds that all three devices will also begin shipping on 20th August, but we’re assuming that this is for the US. Other regions are yet to find out release dates, but Samsung’s past launches have seen the devices land locally relatively swiftly, and despite the strain COVID-19 has put on supply chains, we foresee the same happening here.

The Note 20, and Plus if there is one, will no doubt be pricey and popular devices, but what interests us more at the moment is the Fold 2 and Z Flip 5G. With Huawei and LG launching 5G-supporting devices in the country, we’re hoping to see Samsung do the same.

The company’s foldable phones have not had the impact they were initially intended to either, so hopefully this second lineup delivers a bigger punch.

That said, the pricing on these forthcoming foldable phones will also prove intriguing, as Samsung has not been shy in that department with the original Fold and Z Flip.
