Cell C’s Innovation Challenge relaunched for local ICT SMEs and entrepreneurs

COVID-19 and the national lockdown resulted in a few previously planned projects being put on hold or paused. This was the case for Cell C’s Innovation Challenge, which went on hiatus having launched initially in October of 2019.

Its organisers now confirm that the Innovation Challenge has relaunched for 2020, with it accepting applications once again from SMEs and entrepreneurs from South Africa’s ICT sector last week Friday, 3rd July.

For those unfamiliar, but interested in the Innovation Challenge, it was launched by Cell C in partnership with the Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA), and is looking for businesses and entrepreneurs to pitch worthwhile ideas. Those chosen will then receive necessary resources, mentorship and access to interest-free loans in order to help boost their organisation or offering.

Given how many small businesses have struggled during lockdown, with several already having to shutter doors, an initiative like this comes at an opportune time for those with an innovative idea or solution.

This is something that Cell C is also acutely aware of.

“During this difficult time in our country’s history, the Cell C Innovation Challenge is providing vital opportunities for innovative fledgling businesses and young entrepreneurs,” says Juliet Mhango, Cell C’s chief human capital and transformation officer.

“Nurturing and providing new skills and income for South Africans is one of the core values at Cell C, as evidenced through our Explore Data Science Academy partnership and our ICT employment initiative. We remain committed to providing upskilling opportunities to as many South Africans as we can,” she adds.

The first batch of Cell C Innovation Challenge have already received their boost from this initiative, and if you’re looking to do the same, you can find more information, here.
