After years of requests Donkey Kong Country arrives on the Switch

Ever since Nintendo Switch Online was launched in September 2018 fans have been asking for the classic Donkey Kong Country to be released as part of the games given to subscribers. In July 2020 that will finally happen.

From 15th July this year Donkey Kong Country, Natsume Championship Wrestling and The Immortal will be automatically added to the accounts of subscribers.

The trio can be seen in this new trailer here, but the star of the show is DK.

Oddly enough Nintendo seems to be cognisant of that fact and has given this game extra attention as it got its own separate trailer embedded below.

The “classified information” video, as it’s called, shows off a series of exploits and cheat codes for extra lives, the bonus areas and 101 percent completion.

“On July 15, Donkey Kong, the unstoppable king of swing, returns to the Nintendo Switch system with his touchstone adventure, the classic Super NES game Donkey Kong Country. With a Nintendo Switch Online membership, you’ll be able to join Donkey Kong, his pal Diddy Kong and their trusty animal friends as they explore jungles, climb snowcapped mountains and ride rollicking minecarts to hunt down their missing bananas from a cruel gang of Kremlings,” reads the description of the game from the video above.

If you’re not signed you can pick up a paid subscription to Nintendo Switch Online on the eShop. Thankfully these prices are still the same as they were in 2018, which is good as the Switch hardware has skyrocketed in price recently.

We hope the addition of Donkey Kong Country is a sign of things to come as there are still a mountain of older games which have still not been ported over to Nintendo’s console.

On top of this Nintendo has been oddly quiet when it comes to new announcements with a Direct nowhere to be seen for months. With so many still stuck inside due to the pandemic now would be a perfect time to bring back more fan favourites.
