Four down, two to go: Halo 3 arrives on PC this month

Halo 3 has been announced as the latest game from the franchise to be released on PC with a launch date of 14th July.

This, of course, forms part of The Master Chief Collection (MCC) which bundles up seven games. So far Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo 2: Anniversary and Halo: Reach have all been released onto the MCC.

Once Halo 3 launches next week only two games will be in need of release on PC: Halo 4 and Halo 3: ODST. It’s likely we’ll see the MCC on PC complete before the end of the year, barring any large delays which have plagued most of the industry during the pandemic.

“Now optimized for PC, witness the Master Chief’s return to finish the fight between the Covenant, the Flood, and the entire Human race in this dramatic, pulse-pounding conclusion of the original Halo trilogy. With the fate of the galaxy hanging in the balance, the Master Chief returns to uncover an ancient secret hidden beneath the sands of Africa, which could hold the key to humanity’s salvation or destruction – an object that could change the tide of the Human-Covenant conflict,” reads the description of the game.

Like the other Halo titles this features multiple options to make the most of your PC such as 4K support and 60 FPS gameplay should you be able to run it. And, maybe the biggest draw here, multiplayer.

As with the other games Halo 3 is available to play in many ways. Owners of the MCC will have it unlocked automatically, but it can also be bought separately from Steam or the Microsoft Store, though it doesn’t seem to show up on the latter when we search for it. Subscribers to the Xbox Game Pass for PC also get access MCC and each new game added to it without the need for additional purchases.
