Stage 2 loadshedding continues at 09:00 on Saturday morning

South Africa is currently experiencing Stage 2 loadshedding following the failure of six generation units throughout the week.

The good news is that loadshedding will cease at 22:00 on Friday evening. The bad news is that Eskom has announced that Stage 2 loadshedding will continue on Saturday morning at 09:00.

“Even though some of the units are expected back in service tonight, continuing loadshedding tomorrow is necessary in order to replenish the emergency generation reserves to better prepare for the coming week. Due to the much colder weather, demand for electricity has also risen significantly,” the utility wrote in a power alert on Friday evening.

Since losing 3 000MW of generation capacity earlier on Friday, Eskom has managed to reduce plant breakdowns to 2 350MW.

For those who do have electricity Eskom has asked that South Africans reduce usage so as not to aggravate the situation.

Eskom will continue provide updates regarding “significant changes to the supply situation”.

With this in mind you can find out where to locate your loadshedding schedule here.

Alternatively we recommend downloading the EskomSePush app for Android or iOS smartphones to get push notifications for your area.
