Stage 2 loadshedding hits South Africa at 12:00 on Friday

Following a power alert this morning Eskom has now reported that breakdowns have increased to 3 000MW and as a result loadshedding will have to be implemented.

“Due to the increase in generation unit breakdowns, Eskom regrets to inform country that it will implement Stage 2 loadshedding starting at 12:00,” Eskom wrote in the second power alert of the day.

Stage 2 loadshedding is excepted to last until 22:00 on Friday evening.

“Eskom is working hard to return as many of these generation units to service,” the utility said.

This means it’s a good time to check your loadshedding schedules.

Despite it having been many months since power cuts were a frequent feature of our days, the existing schedules remain in force.

That means you can check for your schedules online here.

Alternatively we recommend download the EskomSePush app for Android or iOS smartphones to get push notifications for your area.

With a cold front currently moving through South Africa this loadshedding could not have come at a worse time. Actually scratch that, at least lockdown has eased somewhat so folks are able to make plans to get dinner and the like when the lights go out.
