The week kicks off with Stage 2 loadshedding at 09:00

Following a bitterly cold weekend throughout the country, Stage 2 loadshedding and greater lockdown restrictions on South Africans, Eskom declared at the weekend that loadshedding would continue.

The utility has been working all weekend to restore generation capacity. By Saturday afternoon Eskom brought back 1 565MW of capacity to the national grid. Sunday seems to have been slow going with Eskom only managing to return one unit to service. That unit was at the Kriel power station back and added 475MW of capacity.

In total then, Eskom has managed to bring back 2 040MW over the weekend. You may recall on Friday that a total loss of 3 000MW of generation capacity brought Eskom to its knees forcing it to implement loadshedding.

“In order to limit the impact of loadshedding on the morning traffic peak, Eskom will start implementing Stage 2 loadshedding from 09:00 tomorrow,” Eskom wrote on Sunday afternoon.

“This will continue until 22:00. Implementing loadshedding tomorrow is also necessary to replenish the emergency generation reserves to better prepare for the week,” the utility added.

With this in mind you can find out where to locate your loadshedding schedule here.

Alternatively we recommend downloading the EskomSePush app for Android or iOS smartphones to get push notifications for your area.

We will continue to provide updates as and when Eskom disseminates them.
