Another day of Stage 2 loadshedding expected on Tuesday

South Africans have been gripped by loadshedding once again and the festivities continue today.

From 09:00 on Tuesday morning, Stage 2 loadshedding will be in effect. Unfortunately Eskom has yet to declare when loadshedding will cease.

The “good” news is that Eskom has managed to bring a few generation units back to service.

“A generation unit each at the Majuba and Lethabo power stations have also returned to service this afternoon. This, however, is still not sufficient to enable Eskom to suspend loadshedding,” Eskom wrote on Monday evening.

The utility also said that it has synchronised Unit 2 of the Koeberg power station with the grid. The power station has been on cold reserve since April 2020.

However, Eskom also said that breakdowns at the Kriel and Medupi power stations have added to the difficulties which have lead to loadshedding.

Back in January Eskom group chief executive officer Andre de Ruyter said that one of the tasks that lay before him is earning the public’s trust back.

Unfortunately, any goodwill de Ruyter had earned up until now evaporated this morning when, despite assurances that there would only be three days of loadshedding during Winter, the fifth day of loadshedding has dawned.

As mentioned, Eskom has not announced when loadshedding will be suspended on Tuesday.

With this in mind you can find out where to locate your loadshedding schedule here.

Alternatively we recommend downloading the EskomSePush app for Android or iOS smartphones to get push notifications for your area.
