The Huawei MatePad T8 and the tablet fight for price and performance

When you’re looking to buy a new smart device of any kind, one of the biggest factors is the fight between price and performance.

Some may think that there is a simple relationship between the two: that is simply paying more means you get better performance. This just isn’t the case for a variety of factors, but the biggest problem people usually run into is determining how much power they actually need.

For the same reason you don’t need a rocket to go down to the shops, or an electric saw to cut your sandwich, there’s no real reason to overspend on your next smartphone or tablet if you want to do the regular circuit of videos, games and social media.

You also don’t want to be stuck with something that’s sluggish and frustrating, and through all of this you have to worry about price and the recent large price increases electronics have seen in South Africa.

The Huawei MatePad T8 is sitting in the middle of all of this as a great example of balancing price and performance, offering more than enough power for less than you think.

Let’s start with the power here. At the heart of the MatePad T8 is an octa-core processor which is set up in such a way that you get both great performance and great battery life. This is accomplished by having half of those eight cores running at a higher 2.0GHz and the other four at 1.5GHz – the former focuses on high performance, and the latter on better efficiency.

This, combined with the 5 100 mAh battery means that you can get a lot done in between charges.

So what does that performance cost? In South Africa you can buy the the Huawei MatePad T8 for just R2 999. What’s even better is that you’re getting things for free: that price is for a bundle including the LTE version of the tablet in blue, a flip cover and a Bluetooth speaker.

With rumours going around that some manufacturers aren’t even going to include a charger in the boxes of its new devices, getting all of that for such a reasonable amount is good to see, especially with money generally being tight all around at the moment.

If that’s still not enough for you let’s see what else your purchase is buying.

That octa-core processor and the big battery are in service of an 8 inch screen with an HD resolution of 800 X 1280. There’s some neat tricks packed into this screen such as an eBook mode that adjusts definition and contrast to make long reading sessions easier on the eyes. Once you’ve blown through your back catalogue of series and movies to watch, it’s good to know that your tablet can even do books well.

Other great features you can look forward to include a metal body, the sleek EMUI10 environment and parental controls, which can even change blue light levels to protect your child’s developing eyes.

If you’re in the market for a tablet that is well specced, features a powerful performance and battery life, along with not breaking the bank, the Huawei MatePad T8 is the go-to option.
