Work on Vermintide 2 will continue as devs move on to Darktide

During the recent Xbox Games Showcase we learned that the newest game to come out of the Warhammer / 40K franchises would be called Darktide, as made by the same people who created the Vermintide games. For those still playing Vermintide 2 years after launch, the developer has some good news for you.

“We remain committed to Vermintide 2. We are looking forward to the continuous development of Vermintide 2, and the next major DLC update coming is Warhammer: Vermintide 2 – Chaos Wastes. We are also already working on the next career following the positive reception of the Grail Knight… and of course, so much more that we are not ready to announce,” reads a statement on Steam.

Developer and publisher Fatshark has continually been working on its rat-killing FPS since it released in March 2018. DLC, balance changes and updates have all been added to the game since then to keep it alive. While it can be played solo with bots the online co-op focus of the game necessitates this kind of continued work.

This announcement also states that the game has more than five million players across PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

As for Darktide we only have the short trailer embedded below as well as a sparse website to look at. The game already has a Steam page and we know it will also be released on the next gen Microsoft machine the Xbox Series X. Those hoping that it will be available at the launch of the new console at the end of this year will be disappointed as it’s slated for a 2021 release.

“We could not be more excited about the future – both for Darktide, and Vermintide 2. We are Warhammer fans at heart, and the ability to grow the studio, learn, and deepen our efforts in the Warhammer universe – well, that is our passion,” The Steam statement ends off.
