Organisers use common sense, make CES 2021 all-digital

With most events this year either being cancelled or moved online in some capacity, we were more than a little concerned to hear that organisers of CES 2021 still planned to host an in-person event come January next year.

Thankfully though, with the COVID-19 pandemic still severely impacting most of the planet, organisers have chosen to go for an all-digital event instead.

“Amid the pandemic and growing global health concerns about the spread of COVID-19, it’s just not possible to safely convene tens of thousands of people in Las Vegas in early January 2021 to meet and do business in person,” explained Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of the Consumer Technologies Association.

“Technology helps us all work, learn and connect during the pandemic – and that innovation will also help us reimagine CES 2021 and bring together the tech community in a meaningful way. By shifting to an all-digital platform for 2021, we can deliver a unique experience that helps our exhibitors connect with existing and new audiences,” he added.

Now that there is no longer a concern with regard to potentially creating a hotspot in Las Vegas and infecting CES 2021 attendees with COVID-19, the big question is how organisers will be delivering the “unique experience”.

To date we’ve seen many companies struggle when it comes to going virtual, with only a handful truly impressing with its pulling off of an all-digital event.

There are still five months for organisers to plan and execute in this regard, so CES 2021 still has the chance to be innovative and provide a blueprint for other large-scale international tech events to emulate.
