Slew of new Steam releases met with positive receptions

Despite the pandemic being somewhat typified by a lack of game releases the last ~24 hours on Steam have been rather busy with new titles. This isn’t just the usual anime graphic novel spam either, as Grounded, Destroy All Humans!, Skater XL and Othercide have made a splash with those who have been playing them early.

Othercide currently has a “Very Positive” overall rating with 82% of its 226 review being positive. The striking tri-colour strategy game developed by Lightbulb Crew and published by Focus Home Interactive is making quite a splash for its blend of unique art style and timeline hoping gameplay.

Skater XL – which has the rather lofty subtitle of “The Ultimate Skateboarding Game” – is here to fill your skating needs until Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 relaunches this year. After spending time in Early Access this game has a lot more reviews than the others in this story, with 6 544 in total. In terms of recent reviews it also has a “Very Positive” rating with 91 percent of 1 389 recent reviews being positive.

Obsidian Entertainment’s pint-sized survival and crafting game Grounded launched into Early Access. The first group of players brave enough to shrink down and fight spiders on their own scale have left 772 review so far and 71 percent of them are positive. This leaves Grounded with a “Mostly Positive” standing, and it should be noted that you can play the game without any additional purchases if you are an Xbox Game Pass subscriber.

Finally there’s Destroy All Humans! which is arguably the most recognisable game here as a remake. It’s done the best, at least in terms of Steam reviews, holding the coveted “Overwhelmingly Positive” standing. 96 percent of the early 585 reviews are positive.

At the time of writing Destroy All Humans! occupied the number one spot on Steam’s new and trending list. Grounded was at number two and Othercide at fourth. Impressively Destroy All Humans! was also at the top of the pile when it came to the top sellers list too.
