Far Cry 6 leaks ahead of Ubisoft Forward

It seems that a listing on the Hong Kong PlayStation Store has revealed the existence of Far Cry 6, some details of its setting, and the inclusion of actor Giancarlo Esposito as the big bad.

Esposito is best known for his role as Gus Fring in Breaking Bad and more recently Moff Gideon in The Mandalorian. His inclusion gives us hope that the series will finally have a character to rival Vass from the seminal Far Cry 3.

At the time of writing the store listing can be removed but you can still view it – in English – in this screencap or this archived page.

Should either of those go down here’s the important text which lays out some details about the new game.

Welcome to Yara, a tropical paradise frozen in time. As the dictator of Yara, Anton Castillo is intent on restoring his nation back to its former glory by any means, with his son, Diego, following in his bloody footsteps. Their ruthless oppression has ignited a revolution.

FIGHT FOR FREEDOM
Play as Dani Rojas, a local Yaran and become a guerrilla fighter to liberate the nation

YARA TORN APART
Fight against Anton’s troops in the largest Far Cry playground to date across jungles, beaches and Esperanza the capital city of Yara

GUERRILLA FIREPOWER
Employ makeshift weapons, vehicles, and Amigos, the new Fangs for Hire to burn the tyrannical regime to the ground

Other details available on the page include the “Discos Locos weapon and a skin for Chorizo” as a pre-order incentive. Also important to note is that by buying the game on PlayStation 4 it unlocks it for the upcoming PlayStation 5 for no extra money.

All of this is rather conveniently timed as Ubisoft’s big Forward conference is taking place this weekend. Putting on the tinfoil hat this leak is a great way to remind everyone of the conference in a big of guerilla marketing.

The more likely explanation is that Far Cry 6 was already planned to be announced this weekend and Ubisoft hoped to have store pages up right after the announcement. The Hong Kong PlayStation Store probably made something live ahead of time by mistake.
