Microsoft Flight Simulator will also launch on Steam

Those wanting to play Microsoft Flight Simulator but prefer to avoid the Microsoft Store and Xbox Game Pass for PC will be happy to know that there is now a new way to buy the game when it launches on 18th August: Steam.

As announced on the official blog, Xbox Wire, all three versions of the game will be available on Steam.

The Standard, Deluxe, and Premium Deluxe are all available on this single store page. As a reminder, as you pay more and move up the versions, you get access to more aircraft and airports. Standard has 20 planes and 25 airports, Deluxe has 25 Planes and 35 airports, and Premium Deluxe has 30 planes and 40 airports.

A new way to buy the game isn’t the only bit of Flight Simulator news released, however.

“Two of the most requested features we’ve been hearing about from the Community are TrackIR and VR support. Today we are excited to announce that Microsoft Flight Simulator will have TrackIR support available on day one, and VR support will be available later this year in time for the launch of the HP Reverb G2,” writes head of Microsoft Flight Simulator, Jorg Neumann.

TrackIR is head tracking software that allows you to look around your aircraft’s cockpit and the environment without the need for a mouse or other hardware.

As for VR the HP Reverb G2 headset s up for pre-order for $599.99 (~R10 104) but has no release date listed on the store page. It features two 2160 x 2160 resolution LCD panels and works with Windows Mixed Reality as well as SteamVR.

Finally this slew of announcements today is promised to be the first of many as the game launches and eventually receives even more content once people get stuck in.

“Xbox Game Studios and Asobo Studio are committed to the community, and the ongoing support of Microsoft Flight Simulator with experience enhancing features like those we’ve announced today. But we have even more planned post-launch! In the future, we will update our development roadmap with continued simulator updates such as themed DLC bundles, free world updates and more. We will be sharing more news in the coming months,” Neumann adds.
