Bad Googling puts Zelda recipe in historical novel

John Boyne, the novelist famous for The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, has unwittingly put a recipe from The Legend of Zelda into his latest book.

His book is called A Traveller At The Gates of Wisdom and it’s a piece of fiction that uses real historical events to tell its story.

Reddit user /u/NoNoNo_OhHoHo made a post on the Breath of the Wild subreddit explaining that items from the game had made it into the book.

You can see the specific section below:

This novel I’m reading straight up lifted Breath of the Wild ingredients for a chapter about dressmaking lol from r/Breath_of_the_Wild

A user on Twitter then reposted this finding, albeit with a useless red circle, which is where Boyne came across it and provided some comment on what happened.

“LOL that is actually kinda hilarious. I’m totally willing to own it.???????? something tells me I’ll be telling this anecdote on stage for many years to come… ????,” Boyne writes.

It seems the mistake comes from a simple Google of some combination of red dye. Depending on your search history and what Google decides to show you that day, the top result may be an excerpt from this Polygon article which talks about dying clothes and armour in the game.

When asked if this error would be removed from future printings of the book Boyne added that he would leave it in along with admitting to the faux pa on the search engine.

“Yeah, I’ll leave it as it is. I actually think it’s quite funny and you’re totally right. I don’t remember but I must have just googled it. Hey, sometimes you just gotta throw your hands up and say ‘yup! My bad!????’,” the author adds.
