Connectivity, and reliable connectivity in particular, is something that is front of mind for many a small business. While 5G promises blazing fast speeds, it is WiFi that will be the connectivity lifeblood for most organisations.

It is why networking specialists Aruba recently announced the locally availability of a new access point (pictured above) for small businesses specifically.

What makes this access point, the Aruba Instant On AP22 (PDF), so noteworthy is the fact that it supports WiFi 6, or 802.11 ax for anyone who knows it by its official wireless standard name.

To date we’ve seen WiFi 6 focused on consumers for the most part, but in recent months it has become an important consideration for enterprises too.

This as WiFi 6 does not necessarily promise huge gains in terms of speed, but rather greater reliability and capacity to handle more devices in a particular environment. That said, Aruba says this unit can muster up to 1.7Gbps speeds.

As such small businesses are an ideal scenario for WiFi 6, which is why Aruba is punting this new offering.

“The latest iteration of Wi-Fi technology – Wi-Fi 6, which was developed to provide the capabilities and security features required to deliver amazing customer experiences and enhance business operations. However, a key challenge for smaller businesses is that, unlike large enterprises, they often lack the IT expertise and staffing to support the deployment of emerging technologies,” explains Mandy Duncan, Aruba country manager.

“Today, that is changing as Aruba introduces a new Wi-Fi 6 (802.11 ax) Access Point (AP) designed specifically with the needs of smaller organizations in mind,” she adds.

With Aruba noting that the Instant On AP22 is capable of handling four times the capacity of 802.11ac (WiFi 5), the company says this device can serve a number of different environments, including remote offices, hybrid classrooms, or reimagined retail and hospitality.
