Samsung Galaxy Note 20 series arrives in SA 21st August

Live from Seoul, South Korea, Samsung has unveiled it’s next generation of Galaxy Note devices, the Galaxy Note 20 series.

We have two new devices before us today, the Galaxy Note 20 and the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. South Africans will have an additional choice to make if opting for the standard Note 20 as both an LTE and 5G variant will be available.

The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra will only be available with 5G locally. Perhaps if market pressure dictates that an LTE variant is needed it may come to South Africa.

But what about the phones.

As revealed by AT&T the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra sports a 6.9inch Infinity-O, Dynamic AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The Galaxy Note 20 has a smaller 6.7inch Infinity-O Super AMOLED+. No 120Hz refresh rate unfortunately.

As for cameras, in the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra you will find three cameras including a 12MP , 108MP and a 12MP telephoto camera.

The Galaxy Note 20 sports 12MP, 64MP and 12MP utra wide angles cameras.

Both the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra sport a 10MP selfie camera.

Combined you can shoot 8K video at 24fps or you can shoot HD footage at 120fps for that buttery smooth slow-motion.

As for battery life you will find the Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra house a 4 300mAh and 4 500mAh battery respectively.

So what about pricing and availability.

For contract customers, the Galaxy Note 20 range starts at R899.

Pre-orders for the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 series open today at the Samsung website.

For those who pre-order, Samsung will throw in a R4 000 voucher which can be used exclusively over on the Samsung online store.

This voucher can be used to purchase the new Galaxy Buds Live or Galaxy Watch 3.

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 is available with a 41mm or 45mm face. The face features a rotating dial for easy access to apps and Complications.

A Complication in the sense of the Watch 3 is how far you’ve walked, cycled or swam.

There is also a heartbeat sensor and an electrocardiogram sensor though it is unclear if this currently works in South Africa. We have asked Samsung and will be sure to share that information as it becomes available.

The Buds Live are redesigned and now feature active noise cancelling and three mics for clearer calls. The kidney-shaped earbuds are also apparently more comfortable.

We happen to have review units of both the Watch 3 and Buds Live thanks to Samsung South Africa, and will be publishing our thoughts in coming weeks, so watch this space.

All three of these devices will be available in South Africa from 21st August.

Samsung has a few more tricks up its sleeve today so be sure to check back with Hypertext as we discover what else the firm has at Unpacked.
