Astronaut FPS Boundary lands on Steam ahead of launch this year

Boundary is an FPS we’ve been keeping a close eye on for months as it offers a unique shooting experience in space that’s less sci-fi and more near future. It’s been shown off on PlayStation 4 mostly, but now there’s a Steam page.

Between this new page and a press release we’ve received, we now know a bit more about the game with some other details confirmed.

Firstly, while no release date has been provided just yet, the game will launch at some point in 2020. When it does come out it will be for PlayStation 4 and PC simultaneously.

“At launch, Boundary will include four multiplayer modes including Team Deathmatch, Facility capture, Orbital purge, Skirmish. As an FPS game, the fast and agile shooter will focus on 5v5 and 3v3 matches where fierce zero gravity firefights will take place in 8 different multiplayer maps,” reads the press release.

The visuals here are rather impressive, especially considering that this is the first game of Chinese developer Surgical Scalpels. To run things the PC specs have been provided below.

Unfortunately the AMD side of things has been completely left out for both CPU and GPU portions, and no information about expected performance has been provided for either tier.

Minimum

  • CPU: Intel i5-6400
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660/NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050
  • RAM: 8GB
  • Storage: 20GB

Recommended

  • CPU: Intel i7-4770K
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060
  • RAM: 16GB
  • Storage: 20GB

There will be six classes of violent astronauts to choose from though the names of these classes and how they differ have not been released just yet. The game is tagged as a class-based shooter on Steam.

To navigate in space players have an Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU) based on the real world suit. It will be interesting to see how this balances with traditional FPS controls as we have to imagine the game may play closer to a six degrees of freedom title.

You can see a trailer from the game, hosted on the official PlayStation channel, embedded below. Every time we see this game in action it reminds us of the fantastic moon rover scene from the 2019 movie Ad Astra.
