Spec shootout – How does the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+ stack up to the iPad Pro

On Wednesday Samsung showed off a slew of new products including a new tablet.

The Galaxy Tab S7 and S7+ will release in certain markets on 21st August. It’s unclear whether South Africa is one of those markets, but while we wait for Samsung South Africa to confirm, we’re going shopping.

The first name in tablets is the Apple iPad, but with the price those slates demand, we’re hoping that the Galaxy Tab S7+ is a bit more affordable.

At present a top-of-the-range iPad Pro with WiFi and cellular connectivity will set you back almost as much as the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, R36 499.

But how does Samsung’s slate stack up to Apple’s iPad? Rather well actually.

Apple iPad Pro Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+

So the Tab S7+ looks very good on paper. While the display is a few fractions of an inch smaller, that seems to help Samsung as there are more pixels to use to create a sharper image.

That’s not to say the iPad’s display is wanting, we’re talking two pixels difference per inch and Apple’s Retina tech (even the Liquid Retina) is the best on the market in our opinion.

Both products support styluses from their respective brands (the Apple Pencil and the Samsung S Pen) but both require a separate purchase.

Where Apple had Samsung pipped was with the combination of the Pencil and the iPad Pro. Combined, the two are the default choice for digital artists.

Samsung claims that it has reduced latency in the S-pen to just 9ms which is the same latency of the Apple Pencil.

That means we may just have a duel on our hands between Apple and Samsung tablets.

Of course, it remains to be seen how the Tab S7+ performs out in the wild but maybe, just maybe Apple’s long reign as the first choice for tablets is over.
