Google adds COVID-19-related travel info for countries across the globe

In recent months we have seen Google announce a number of features aimed at providing its users with as much accurate COVID-19-related information as possible. The latest feature from the firm is focused on travel, with those wanting to head to new destinations while a global pandemic is underway.

Precisely why people would want to risk travelling overseas at the moment is unclear, but with some countries having opened up their borders, and others heavily dependent on tourism for their economy, this new feature is nevertheless welcome.

“As restrictions and advisories begin to lift, we’re adding information about travel resuming in a specific destination on Google Search,”

This new feature is built into Search, with updated information appearing for airports, hotels and room availability for specific locations.

If you’re wanting a deeper dive, Google Trips will serve up the number of COVID-19 cases at a chosen destination, as well as historical data and trend lines in terms of popularity and availability of flexible cancellations for accommodation.

All this information will be added to the travel advisories that Google has been making available throughout the pandemic and lockdown.

The firm notes that the new travel info will be made available as of next week.
