pudo offers contactless delivery through a smartlocker system

By now you’ve likely stumbled across Schalk Bezuidenhout and his piesang.

Mind out of the gutter folks, we’re talking about the comedian’s appearance in a commercial for pudo, a new delivery service that makes use of smart lockers.

The service is actually the brainchild of The Courier Guy.

As mentioned, pudo uses smart lockers to facilitate deliveries around the country.

As a user you’ll need to create an account (which is free) and then add funds to that account in order to send a package. Pricing for pudo ranges from R50 for a small package up to R200 for an extra-large package. Details on dimensions – as these packages need to fit into the lockers – can be found here.

While the crux of the idea is that folks send packages to the lockers, pudo also offers door-to-locker and locker-to-door delivery.

Once you have a package and you’re ready to send it make a booking via the pudo website or its app (available for Android and Apple iOS).

The app gives you an overview of the pudo lockers close to you so you can easily drop off your package or schedule a collection. Everything is done online so there is no need to sign for a delivery or fuss with paperwork.

Once a package arrives the recipient will receive an alert. They then have 36 hours to collect the package before it is returned to a pudo depot.

The package can be returned to the sender at their request but keep in mind that this carries an additional cost.

As of time of writing there are 300 lockers installed around South Africa with plans to increase this to 1 000 by mid-2021.

“We are increasing our contactless pudo locker system network to have lockers across the country so that even if you are in Mthatha, Paarl or Thohoyandou, you will be able to send your parcels to your friends and family at any given moment,” explains managing director for The Courier Guy, Stephen Gleisner.

“With the advent of COVID-19, we believe that our pudo lockers have ensured that innovation and product agility remain at the heart of what we do as a brand. We wanted to make sure that we continue to remain the reliable courier guy for our customers even during the toughest conditions placed upon us all,” the MD added.
